Introduction

Seeing as how you've chosen to read this review, it's safe to assume that you want to reap the many benefits of building a loyal following on social media.

If there's one that that regularly holds people back from achieving this though, it's the struggle to commit consistently enough, and for long enough, to produce any meaningful results.

When it comes to Pinterest, I know from personal experience just how tough this can be.

The consensus is that you need to pin anywhere between 15-30 times a day to see the best results - I don't know about you, but I'd struggle to do anything 15-30 times a day consistently, day-in-day-out without a little help.

It's not due to a lack of commitment either; it's just the simple fact that life always manages to get in the way.

There are the days where I'm too busy to pull myself away long enough to pin, or where other priorities take over to make pinning slip my mind altogether. When I do finally add a pin, it isn't the few minutes here and there to add it that takes its toll - it's also the time spent recovering from the distraction when means that each pin probably ends up costing me 15 minutes of my time.

This led not only to the somewhat sporadic growth of my Pinterest profile but also feelings of being torn, as I felt guilty while focusing on Pinterest and also when I neglected it in favor of other priorities.

In reality, I wasn't doing myself any favors, and while I did experience some growth overall, it was nowhere near as quick or consistent as it should have been.

It was a case of two steps forward, one step back. Less than ideal.

It doesn't need to be such a struggle, though.

I want to show you that you don't need to compromise when it comes to growing your Pinterest profile while focusing on other priorities at the same time.

You can have both worlds.

It's a case of switching from working hard to working smart, and that's where this review and my recommendation of the Tailwind Pinterest scheduler comes in.

Let’s get started…

What Is Tailwind?

Started in 2011, Tailwind is a social media marketing tool that helps users track, manage, and grow their presence and social marketing on Pinterest (which this review focuses on), and Instagram.

When it comes to Tailwind for Pinterest, the software integrates seamlessly and securely with a user's social media profile to target three main areas:

  • 'Hands-off' Pinning - A simple but powerful Pinterest scheduler helps users automate their pinning, with the scheduler pinning on a user's behalf with no further input required (until the schedule is empty).

  • Helping Users Monitor Their Performance - Tailwind provides powerful Pinterest analytics, and users can track their performance to see which boards/pins are delivering the best results so they can target these going forward.

  • Helping Users Reach New Audiences - With Tailwind Tribes, users can boost their social marketing by reaching new audiences and getting their content seen by as many people as possible.

Who Is Tailwind For?

Over 200,000 individuals, brands and agencies use the Tailwind social media scheduling software as a whole, and these vary from the smallest users, for example, bloggers, all the way up to the largest corporations.

If, as with these users, you rely on driving website traffic, referrals, and customers via social marketing, and you want to minimize the time and effort associated with regular pinning, understanding what works and reaching new audiences, then you'll be in a great position to benefit from Tailwind for Pinterest.

Standout Benefits of the Tailwind Pinterest App

In the introduction, I alluded to the fact that using a Pinterest scheduler is an example of working smart as opposed to merely working hard.

To help back up this claim, and before discussing specific benefits, I want to help you visualize a few of the differences between a Tailwind user and a non-Tailwind user with two examples:

I typically pin as and when I can on Pinterest...or when I remember to.

I know the general advice is to pin anywhere between 15-30 times a day, but it's just so difficult to be consistent with it. Sometimes I'm so busy that I don't get a chance, and when I try to make pinning a priority, it ends up being a distraction and pulling me away from my other work.

Juggling my pinning and other priorities can be so difficult...and infuriating!

I won't give up on it though. I'll keep fitting it in as surely the odd pin here and there is better than nothing, right?

non-Tailwind user

vs

I've just sorted all of my Pinterest pins for the next two weeks.

Using Tailwind, it was easy to schedule 30 pins per day, and the best bit is that they'll get pinned at times when my audience is most likely to be active.

It took less than ten minutes to plan all 400-plus pins too, thanks to the awesome web browser extension and the fact that I can schedule each pin to multiple boards at once.

I don't miss the days of endless distractions from manual pinning, and I can now use all those saved hours each week to prioritize other things that I need to be working on or as extra free time!

Tailwind user

Who would you rather be from these (albeit made up) examples?

I thought so.

It's obvious who will stand a better chance of boosting their social marketing success via Pinterest while minimizing/removing the feeling of being overworked and spread too thin, and that's the kind of efficiency-increasing, multi-tasking awesomeness that the Tailwind app can give you.

Let's go beyond this basic example though to show you some of the standout benefits of the Tailwind Pinterest app, based on my experiences:

(click to navigate)

Don't struggle to fit pinning into your busy day (or to remember to pin!) - Tailwind puts Pinterest on autopilot to give you one less worry.
Benefit #2
Stop second guessing the best times to pin - The Smart Schedule analyzes your Pinterest audience to choose the best times to boost engagement.

Filling your Tailwind pin queue isn't a chore - You can create weekly or monthly pinning schedules in minutes.

Benefit #5
Pin new content on the fly from outside Pinterest in seconds using one of Tailwind's browser extensions.
Benefit #6

Benefit #7
Relax knowing that your account data and personal information are safe and secure thanks to Tailwind’s official endorsement from Pinterest.

Standout Benefit #1

Don't struggle to fit pinning into your busy day (or to remember to pin!) - Tailwind puts Pinterest on autopilot to give you one less worry.

There are no two ways about it; while the quality of your pins is critical, there's no getting away from the fact that volume plays a major part in achieving success on Pinterest. Unless you're consistently pinning enough pins day-in-day-out, you'll find it very difficult to make meaningful progress.

Pinning the odd time here and there just isn't going to do you any favors.

Thankfully, the Tailwind app's Pinterest scheduler makes it simple to put your pinning on autopilot.

For example, you could choose to neglect Pinterest in favor of writing your next blog post or going out with friends for coffee instead, safe in the knowledge that the software will maintain your chosen pinning schedule for you. Heck, you could neglect your profile all week without needing to worry while your pins continue to get pinned like clockwork.

The best bit? You can keep adding new pins to the end of the queue to make sure it never runs out (I do this once per week usually), and you can use the Shuffle Queue function to make sure the same pin doesn't get pinned multiple times in a row.

Simple yet awesome, eh?

Taking Advantage of the Automated Pinterest Scheduler

With the Tailwind Pinterest app, it's easy to see the quantity and content of the pins that you've scheduled for specific days, as everything appears in the table shown below.

Tailwind works on a 'set it and forget it' basis once a pin is scheduled, meaning that no matter if I jet off to the other side of the world, or I leave my computer no longer have access to the internet, each of these pins will get pinned automatically without any extra input needed.

Your schedule really is your answer to hassle-free, hands-off pinning, so it's essential to know when it's about to run out so that you can top it up. Thankfully, Tailwind makes this easy to determine not only via the visual nature of the schedule itself but also via a handy count of the number of pins remaining in the sidebar menu. Don't worry if you forget to log in to the scheduling tool for a while either, as you'll get a helpful email reminder when your pin queue first empties.

Any pins in your schedule will automatically get pinned without any further input required.

You'll receive a handy email notification whenever your pin queue first empties.

Standout Benefit #2

Stop second guessing the best times to pin - The Smart Schedule analyzes your Pinterest audience to choose the best times to boost engagement.

Besides volume and consistency, another factor that plays a part in social marketing success on Pinterest is pinning at the best times.

While Pinterest's built-in analytics will show you how you're performing on a day-by-day basis, you can't break the data down into the hourly increments you would need to figure out the most-effective times for pinning.

Because of this, by relying on Pinterest's analytics alone, you'll inevitably end up pinning at times when your audience isn't as active or engaged, meaning you'll miss out on the potential new followers, comments, and repins that are the lifeblood of your social marketing.

Another issue from purely relying on Pinterest is that it can be difficult to handle the time differences that come from having a worldwide target audience. To achieve the best results, this means that you'll need to pin consistently over a 24 hour period to ensure you hit the times that your audience will be most active in their respective countries.

I don't know about you, though, but the thought of getting up at 1 AM, 3 AM, and 5 AM to pin doesn't fill me with joy!

Thankfully, the Tailwind app makes it easy to solve both of these problems, as the Smart Schedule helps you see and choose the best times to pin, and everything is put on autopilot to allow the software to pin round the clock for you.

Phew!

Creating a Smarter Pinning Strategy

Thanks to the Smart Schedule function, you can quickly create a pinning strategy that is built around the best times to pin, with the regular Pinterest scheduler then pinning these for you 24 hours a day:

Image showing the Smart Schedule builder feature of the Tailwind app, which lets users choose how many pins they want to schedule each day. The ability to pin at optimal times helps boost the effectiveness of a user’s social media marketing, and it’s a large factor behind why Tailwind reviews so highly on a regular basis.
The first step is to choose how many pins per day you want in your Smart Schedule.

You can then customize your Smart Schedule by adding, removing, or changing timeslots.

The Tailwind app makes it clear which timeslots will likely be the best.

Standout Benefit #3

Filling your Tailwind pin queue isn't a chore - You can create weekly or monthly pinning schedules in minutes.

As someone who spent the time pinning one-by-one before using the Tailwind app, the thought of scheduling 200-plus pins in one go to last an entire week filled me with dread. It was just one of a couple of false assumptions I made before trying the Pinterest scheduler first-hand.

In reality, though, Tailwind makes it as easy as possible to bulk schedule loads of pins. The developers clearly understand that there'd be no point saving time versus manual pinning if you had to spend all that saved time up front getting everything organized.

Here's a quick example of how easy it is to bulk schedule pins...

  1. I can choose twenty of my top pins in under a minute from within the Tailwind app
  1. I can use the handy Add Board to all feature to assign ten of my Pinterest boards to each pin.

Voila - I've now scheduled 200 pins (enough to last the next week) in a couple of minutes!

Adding Hundreds of Pins at a Time to Your Schedule

The Add Board to All feature is one of the quickest and easiest ways to fill your entire weekly or monthly pinning schedule in a couple of minutes:

Image showing how a user can add a pin to multiple boards in the Tailwindapp, which helps users build an entire weekly or monthly schedule in minutes.
Why waste time and energy adding pins one-by-one? Instead, schedule them to multiple boards simultaneously.

Standout Benefit #4

Get more bang for your buck on Pinterest by sharing pins with new audiences using Tailwind Tribes.

It's no secret that Pinterest's group boards can help you massively increase your social marketing's reach and engagement. It makes sense because by getting your content out to where more of your target audience hangs out, the likelihood of your pin being seen and resonating with the types of people who will benefit your business shoots way up.

One problem that I've experienced, though, is that a lot of the group boards on Pinterest are closed to new contributors. For the ones that are open, many have a convoluted joining process, or they get treated as a bit of a members' club, making them both challenging and intimidating to join.

Thankfully, there's an alternative, and it comes in the form of Tailwind Tribes.

The sole purpose of Tribes is to help people reach a wider audience with their content. The focus is usually on collaboration, with many Tribes expecting you to maintain a 1:1 pinning ratio (i.e., for every pin that you add to a Tribe for sharing, you're supposed to share another member's pin).

From experience, I've found the Tribes that I've joined to be much more welcoming than traditional Pinterest group boards, and the level of repinning activity seems to be much higher too.

The best part is that there are dedicated Tailwind Tribes for nearly every topic or niche available, and joining them couldn't be easier. You even get access to Tribes as part of the Tailwind free trial, and you can choose to purchase what are called PowerUps to allow more usage each month (I cover the various Tailwind pricing plans for PowerUps later here).

Boosting Your Profile with Tailwind Tribes

Tribes are a great alternative to Pinterest's group boards, as they form a virtually unlimited source of pins for your schedule, and they also help you get your content seen by as many people as possible.

You really can't afford to ignore the Tribes feature, as it's the key to massively growing the reach and engagement of your social marketing on Pinterest.

There are plenty of Tailwind Tribes available, and it couldn't be easier to find one that best suits your content's topic or niche.

Tribes is a hugely beneficial feature for anyone that uses Tailwind for Pinterest, as it helps get pins in front of as many people as possible to boost exposure, as shown in this image.
You can prioritize where to share future pins thanks to a full breakdown of activity and performance for each of your Tribes.

Standout Benefit #5

Pin new content on the fly from outside Pinterest in seconds using one of Tailwind's browser extensions.

Unless a website has a Pin It button enabled on its images, it can often be time-consuming and a bit of a hassle to pin new content from outside Pinterest.

Don't worry though, as the Tailwind app has a number of browser extensions available (for Chrome, Firefox, and Safari) to speed the entire process up. Provided an image is pinnable in the first place, these extensions allow you to quickly and easily pin an image immediately, or you can add it to your schedule for pinning later.

I use this feature a lot as I browse the web, so I can vouch for how good it is and how much time it has saved me overall.

I also use it to bulk add content to my schedule while on Pinterest.com itself, as instead of having to add each pin individually, I can click the browser extension button and see all of the pins at once. I then click each pin and bulk add them to my schedule, saving even more time.

Simple!

Pinning New Content While Browsing the Web

Here's a quick example of how easy it is to schedule new content directly from the web by using the Tailwind app's browser extensions. I use Safari, although the Firefox and Chrome extensions work the same way:

Found an image you like while browsing the web? Add it to your schedule via a handy browser extension.

The software shows all of a webpage's image. Simply select the one you want and click Go Schedule!

Standout Benefit #6

Don't be in the dark about what's working and what isn't. Get a detailed overview of your Pinterest performance at the click of a button.

The easiest route to social marketing success on Pinterest is finding out what works and doing more of it. With Tailwind's Insights feature, you can find out everything you need to know about your Pinterest performance to get all the data you need to make informed choices.

For example, at the click of a button, you can check which boards and pins are leading to the most repins, and which Tribes are leading to the most exposure so that you can target these as a priority going forward.

Making Smarter Social Marketing Choices

The Insights function is the go-to place for everything you need to know about your profile's performance, and it covers the main Pinterest metrics that will help you determine what's working and what isn't:

Just one of the many analytics dashboards available in the Tailwind app that help you make smarter social marketing decisions.

Standout Benefit #7

Relax knowing that your account data and personal information are safe and secure thanks to Tailwind’s official endorsement from Pinterest.

Tailwind is an official Pinterest Marketing Developer Partner, which means that it has been officially approved and endorsed to build tools that will help marketers grow their businesses on the social platform.

The process of becoming a Marketing Developer Partner involves a thorough and detailed screening and certification process, and a multitude of checks that the software tool itself and developer as a whole needs to pass.

The benefit for you as a user is that you get complete peace of mind and confidence that Tailwind for Pinterest is a high-quality product that offers features that not only make your life easier but also keep you 100% safe and secure.

Having Peace of Mind That Tailwind Is a Tried, Tested and Trusted Solution

The pin scheduling software, along with the developer as a whole, has been officially approved and endorsed by Pinterest:

What Could be Improved?

I haven't experienced any technical issues with the Tailwind Pinterest scheduler and the analytics features, but there are a couple of things which I believe could be improved:

  • The User Interface Could Look More Modern

This isn't a massive criticism, as it's more important for the tool as a whole to be up to the task (which it is) versus what it looks like, however, it looks slightly dated compared to other marketing tools that I've used. I'd argue that the Tailwind app's appearance is more functional than aesthetic, which is fine; however, it would be nice to have a more modern, clean user interface especially when you'll likely be using the software regularly going forward if you decide to subscribe to it.

  • You Need to Pay for the Plus Plan Annually If You Want to Pin the Recommended Amount Each Day

Another slight issue, in my opinion, is the discrepancy between what you get with the Plus plan if you decide to pay monthly versus annually (see: how much is Tailwind for Pinterest?). If you go with the $15 per month option, you can only schedule a maximum of 400 pins per month, as opposed to an unlimited amount if you opt to pay annually. For anyone who wants to follow the popular advice of pinning 15-30 times per day, this forces you somewhat down the route of paying annually as the monthly plan won't offer enough capacity.

It's worth remembering too that users who stick with the monthly plan for an entire year will end up paying over $60 more than annual subscribers, so because of this, I'd personally like to see the cap removed for monthly subscribers.

Tailwind Pricing & Features

The various Tailwind pricing plans are set up in a way to offer a cost-effective solution to users of any size.

New users can take advantage of the Tailwind free trial to make sure the software is a good fit for their needs, and this allows scheduling of up to 100 pins and access to all other features of the Plus plan including Tribes.

Next up is the paid version of the Plus plan, which will probably be sufficient for 90% of users, for example, bloggers and small businesses, followed by the Professional and Enterprise plans which offer more advanced features that will likely be of interest to larger brands and social media marketing companies.

The prices are as follows:

Image showing the various Tailwind pricing plans that are available. For clarity, an unlimited Tailwind free trial is available which isn’t stated in this image, and this gives users access to a free Pinterest scheduler which has very few limitations.

Note: The Plus plan has two options:

  1. You can pay monthly ($15/month) and this will allow you to schedule up to 400 pins per month, or;
  1. You can pay annually ($119.88, i.e. the equivalent of $9.99/month), which saves you 33% versus the monthly plan and allows you to schedule an unlimited number of pins per month.

Plus Plan Features

I won't be discussing the Professional and Enterprise plans in significant detail, as they likely won't be as popular and I don't have experience with them. You can view an entire list of their features here, however.

The Plus plan's features are as follows:

  • Add up to one Pinterest profile.

  • Add up to one website domain.

  • Archive up to 30 days of historical profile data.

  • Schedule up to 400 pins/month if paying monthly.

  • Schedule an unlimited number of pins/month if paying annually.

  • Create a personalized posting schedule.

  • Bulk upload pins.

  • Import from Facebook, Instagram, Dropbox, etc.

  • Full online support.

  • Get 30 days of profile growth data in terms of followers, repins, comments, and more.

  • Get daily board metrics in terms of followers, repins, comments, and more.

  • Get 30 days of board growth data in terms of followers, repins, comments, and more.

  • Get 30 days of organic pinning data from your website.

  • Track the most recent pins from your website.

  • Access to up to 5 Tailwind Tribes.

  • 30 monthly Tailwind Tribes submissions.

Tailwind Pricing - Tribes

I discuss the benefits of Tribes in detail here.

As standard, you get free access to up to 5 Tailwind Tribes in total, and you can submit up to 30 pins per month.

If this isn't enough for your needs though, you can purchase one of the following Tribes PowerUps:

Image showing the various Tailwind pricing plans that apply to Tribes. Users of the free Pinterest scheduler functionality available with the Tailwind free trial still get access to Tribes, but the so-called PowerUps shown in this image will help users increase how many tribes they can join and how much they can share.

Note: I purchased the Tribes Max plan hence why this option is already selected above.

Tailwind Alternatives

Let's face it; there's no shortage of social media marketing tools available online. To help you make a more informed choice about which to choose, and to add some extra depth to this review, I think it's important to compare a few of the most popular Tailwind competitors to see how they stack up.

The three Tailwind alternatives that I've chosen are Viralwoot, Viraltag, and SocialPilot.

Viralwoot vs Tailwind

Like the Tailwind app, Viralwoot is a social media scheduler and analytics platform that is designed to help people and businesses grow their social media organically. There are two paid plans available, each of which gives access to a Pinterest scheduler and an Instagram scheduler. The plans are priced as follows when paid monthly:

  • Standard ($10/month)
  • Business ($49/month)

Here are the independent review scores for Tailwind vs Viralwoot (correct at time of writing):

G2 Crowd

Capterra

  • Tailwind App: Not yet reviewed.

TrustRadius

  • Viralwoot: Not yet reviewed.

Viraltag vs Tailwind

Unlike Tailwind (which specializes in Pinterest/Instagram), Viraltag allows users to schedule content across all the major social networks, including Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and LinkedIn.

Viraltag has three paid plans available which are priced as follows (when paid monthly):

  • Individual ($29/month)
  • Small Business ($99/month)
  • Brand ($249+/month)

You can get a 14-day free trial of each plan before purchase.

Here are the independent review scores for Tailwind vs Viraltag (correct at time of writing):

G2 Crowd

Capterra

  • Tailwind App: Not yet reviewed.

TrustRadius

SocialPilot vs Tailwind

SocialPilot is similar to Viraltag in that it allows you to schedule social media posts across the most popular social networks.

There are four paid SocialPilot plans available which are priced as follows (when paid monthly):

  • Individual ($10/month)
  • Professional ($24/month)
  • Small Team ($40/month)
  • Agency ($80/month)

You can get a 14-day free trial of each plan before purchase.

Here are the independent review scores for Tailwind vs SocialPilot (correct at time of writing):

G2 Crowd

Capterra

  • Tailwind App: Not yet reviewed.

TrustRadius

  • SocialPilot: Not reviewed yet.

Boardbooster vs Tailwind

Boardbooster was a Pinterest scheduler which shut down in 2018. While there are legacy reviews available, there isn't much point in providing a comparison of Tailwind vs Boardbooster given that it is no longer available.

Would I Recommend the Tailwind App?

Yes, without a doubt.

Don't just take my word for it though. As the last section shows, the software has received a total of 4.5/5 and 8.4/10 across a high number of independent Tailwind reviews on both the G2 Crowd and TrustRadius review platforms.

As such, you can be confident that it's is a great choice from the range of Pinterest scheduler / social marketing tools on the market.

Here are just a few of the benefits which I'll reiterate from earlier:

  • Fit Pinterest around your busy schedule thanks to the automated, hands-off pinning process.

  • Target the best times to bit that will help maximize your chances of getting as much engagement as possible.

  • Fill your pinning schedule for an entire week or month in just a few minutes.

  • Widen your pins' reach, exposure, and impact through exposure to new audiences using Tailwind Tribes.

  • Add new content quickly and easily on the fly from outside Pinterest.

  • Know exactly what's working and what isn't thanks to in-depth and detailed analytics.

  • Relax knowing you're in good hands thanks to the software's official endorsement from Pinterest.

Start experiencing these benefits for yourself by taking advantage of a Tailwind free trial. There's no time limit, and you can schedule up to 100 pins to make sure it's the right choice for you. Click the button below to get started!
